How to Set Yourself up for a Productive Revision Session

How to Set Yourself up for a Productive Revision Session

Hi Girlies,

Looking to reach ultimate productivity in your revision sessions? Keep reading to find out how...

1. Plan your time:  Work out and note down how long you have until your exam date.  Then, block out the days where you know that you will not be studying due to prior commitments and the remaining time will be free to break down into study blocks.  This will help you to determine how you are going to revise the required content in the time you have left.

2. Work out how you study best:  Your approach may differ for the variety of subjects you are studying, but trialing a few different ways to see how you best retain information, will get you in a good position long term.  Experiment with your revision techniques, for example creating mind maps, testing yourself with cue cards and using different colours and images.

3. Hydration and Fuel: Ensure that you are keeping hydrated by having a drink in reaching distance when you sit down to work. Getting up to make yourself a drink mid revision session, could distract your train of thought and you may find it difficult to get into the flow of studying again.  Water and squash are a great option for their hydrating benefits, but a coffee or tea (and a little snack) can help to keep the energy levels up for the longer revision days.

4. Breaks: Take regular small breaks to give your brain a break from focused time and your eyes a rest from screens. The Pomodoro Time Management Method suggests 25 minute bursts of studying with a 5 minute break in between.  A longer break of 15-30 minutes can be taken after 4 revision blocks to help prevent burnout.

Revising for exams can be an adjustment, particularly if it is something that you are not used to.

Knowing this, The Girlies Collective created a revision box with you in mind. The contents are targeted at self-care and preparation during your revision sessions and the exam season.

We hope that these tips help on your journey and we wish you the best of luck in your exams!

Lots of Love
